Not A Veil-Loving Bride?

It's not uncommon that modern brides aren't sold on the idea of wearing a veil {or even having a train}.  Finally, there is a new trend surfacing as an alternative.  It might not hold the traditional significance of a veil, but bridal capes are a fashionable and sophisticated addition to your wedding style.  From princess and boho-inspired capes to sheer mid-length capes and capelets, this chic accessory is here to stay in 2018.

Not fully convinced you should complete your wedding gown with a chic cape?  Just check out the gorgeous images below and find more inspiration on our Pinterest board {BridalCapes}.

Looking Ahead to 2018!

With a new year comes new ideas and fresh perspectives.  Let's take a look at the exciting trends we are seeing for 2018!

Dramatic shifts in decor are coming!  Blush and gold were extremely popular for several years and then marsala was added to the mix but we are now seeing a definite 180 degree shift in color schemes.  Brides are loving blue and pastel tones and brides who want to add a little flavor to their celebration are looking toward bold color combinations such as fuchsia, yellow and orange.  These new hues bring a fun and fresh vibe to your special day.  Mercury glass and other metals are giving way to clear glass and clean, modern lines.  While greenery in and organic shaping of arrangements is still popular, we are seeing less garlands and runners of greenery.  Other interesting materials are also making their way into weddings such as acrylic and leather.

Trends apply to food and drink as well.  The newest food and drink trends we are seeing include floral flavors, Persian, Israeli, Moroccan {just to name a few} cuisine influences, crisped snacks like chips made from bowtie pasta, and a variety of fresh sparkling drinks!  Champagne and French 75s are making a definite comeback!

Incorporate one {or all} of these trends to bring something unique, unexpected and fun to your celebration!

Pantone Color 2018 // Ultra violet

It's official, the Pantone Color of the Year for 2018 is ultra violet!  It's almost like they dedicated this year's color to Prince {lucky for us Minnesotans}!  Look for this color to pop everywhere from fashion, to home decor to weddings.  You might not realize it yet, but there tons of gorgeous color combinations you can do with this bold and vibrant color!  From little details to a full violet palette, you'll soon be obsessed with this color.

Wedding palettes have slowly been transitioning to deeper hues and we are ready to embrace color full on!  One of our favorite 2018 Pantone inspired palettes is a combination of blue gray, fuchsia, and yes, you guessed it, ULTRA VIOLET!  If you're looking for a monochromatic color scheme, match the Pantone color with deep, rich berry hues.  For the bolder bride who wants to flaunt their creative side, add some yellow and orange to the look.  Even a neutral color palette can use some love from this pretty hue!  Place cards, drinks, invitation suites and cakes are all perfect ways to include an ultra violet accent into your special day.

To inspire you, we have four of our favorite Pantone color combinations below {8 colors in each} featuring ultra violet as well as some of our favorite ways violet has been incorporated into weddings!

Winter Wedding Warmth

Winter offers a romantic and dreamy setting for weddings.  Bare trees and fluffy snow make for clean and elegant images on your special day, especially if the sun decides to peek out.  And, if you're lucky, a light snow fall will create a magical backdrop.  But we know what you're thinking, winter days can be quite chilly!  Well, we don't think you should let that stop you from tying the knot in the midst of this beautiful season.

You can host an amazing celebration {and even have an outdoor ceremony} as long as you properly prepare for the weather conditions.  If you're dreaming of an outdoor celebration, be sure to provide blankets and hand warmers to make sure your guests are comfortable.  You can also keep them toasty with a coffee or hot cocoa bar.  You should shop for the perfect shawl or wrap to stay cozy and chic on your special day {and don't forget your bridesmaids need something too!}.  From faux fur to a knitted cape, it's easy to find a way to stay warm AND stylish.  Some might call us crazy, but we think there's no more romantic season to marry than winter.

The Chic Groom

There is no argument that the bride "takes the cake" for being most beautiful individual on the wedding day.  But that doesn't mean your groom can't grab your guests' attention and flaunt high fashion.  With the right details, you will walk down the aisle to the most handsome and stylish soon-to-be husband.

Don't be afraid to mix and match ANYTHING, because it'll lead you to the perfect combination of details.  Especially during this fall season, we love the deep, romantic tones that are combined with a variety of color and textures.  If you love what you see below, head over to our {g r o o m s m e n a t t i r e} Pinterest board.

Say "I do" to Brunch Weddings

Picture this, you and your fiancé are venue shopping and as you walk in the door to the last venue you decide that this stunning place was made for you.  However, it’s a popular venue and every Friday and Saturday evening is booked past your wedding date. Don’t panic! Consider a morning wedding!  Many people look straight past a brunch wedding, but we love them! From strawberry balsamic jam wedding favors and mini waffle sliders to a Mimosa bar, brunch weddings are an exciting option for any bride.

Still have doubts?  Well, if you're wondering if anyone is going to drink and dance at a morning wedding, we have great news! Just about everyone is going to be more than willing to grab a mimosa and bust a move if you are too!  Wondering what you are going to do the rest of the day?  With a morning wedding you can truly enjoy your day together, as newlyweds, talking about the wedding, spending time at the hotel room you splurged on, and getting a kickstart to your honeymoon!  Another advantage is the unparalleled morning light that will provide the most gorgeous images so you can relive this celebration over and over again!

We are not saying morning weddings and better than evening weddings, because those are wonderful too.  But brunch weddings are often overlooked by couples, and they are a trendy and unforgettable way to celebrate your special day!

LGBTQ Wedding Trends

With the Gay Pride Festival this weekend, we wanted to celebrate a few of our lovely couples we've been fortunate enough to plan weddings for and to give inspiration with trends we have noticed for same-sex couples!

Original Attire Choices  We love it when couples embrace the freedom to wear anything that fits their personal style! Of course we love wedding gowns and the traditional suit and tie, but Lawrence + Johnny looked very handsome in their casual attire.

Ceremonies in the Round  Most of our couples are choosing to modernize traditional ceremonies by having a less structured bridal party and ceremony. We see a lot of standing ceremonies where guests surround the couple and officiant, creating a very intimate setting.

Exceptional Venues  There are no limits to where you can celebrate your special day. Jason + Rodney had an intimate ceremony with their closest friends and family on the Guthrie Theater's Endless Bridge, which offered gorgeous views of the Mississippi River.  Lawrence + Johnny chose to transform Studio 1414, a photography studio.

Free Flowing Receptions  Couples are moving away from formal sit-down dinners and are utilizing the same space for both a ceremony and reception without the need for a flip. This format is more intimate, requires less space and gives you the option to have food trucks or stations.

Decor + Aesthetic  Overall, most couples want to break the mold and have unique details that speak to their long standing, committed relationships. Andrew + Brendan created a flawless wedding cake that told their love story from start to finish.

Unique Entertainment  If you're looking for a more relaxed feel, plan a reception like Lawrence + Johnny's where they included fun activities such as pool and darts.

With no set traditions for same-sex couples, we have complete freedom to create an unparalleled event and to uniquely personalize their special day.

Pinspiration // Dusty Rose

Summer is coming in HOT, and so are our favorite summer wedding trends! One trend we are obsessing over is color scheming with dusty rose. Deeper and richer than the ever popular blush, dusty rose is completely versatile. Whether you're looking to accessorize your head table or your bridal look, incorporating this color is the perfect way to achieve that warm summertime feel.

Pair dusty rose with navy or grey accents to keep your look modern and sleek; or add an element of glamour with gold metallic tones. Include a touch of greenery to pop the color and provide some contrast and added warmth.

New York International Bridal Week

It’s that time of year again;  New York International Bridal Week when we get to see what our brides will be wearing come fall 2017! It’s so exciting to see the trends and imagine how to turn inspiration from a bridal gown into an amazing wedding! Billowing sleeves, floral appliques, ruffles, capes and gorgeous lace {but not grandma’s gown} were all over the runways. The looks seemed to fall in either regal, show-stopping looks or ethereal looks which seem to literally float. Following are just a few of our favorites.

    Floral Prints

It is a given that flowers are going to be in weddings! These blooms add color and personality to anything they are near. If you're like us and love to be surrounded by flowers, why not add even more floral to your wedding? We want to take a major spin on flowers this week and introduce to you floral prints. Floral prints have evolved from your grandma’s tablecloth into a fresh and feminine look for weddings. If you prefer a bolder, more modern look, incorporate brighter tones, more abstract designs and offset with black or navy. Whether used sparingly or throughout your look, floral prints add that classic touch to your big day!

    Fall In Love With Navy

Navy is the perfect color to play with on your wedding day. Navy suits have been a popular 2016 choice for the men, but why not mix it into your décor as well? This bold neutral isn’t as heavy or formal as black and works well with almost any color to make your color palette perfectly polished. Here are four color combos that we’ve fallen in love with featuring navy which showcase its amazing versatility.

    Navy & Green

We love a good seafaring navy and love it even more when accented with green. This organic palette uses shades of green, including {our favorite} sage, and pops of white. The look is fresh and modern.

    Navy & Marsala

The deep shades in this palette scream romance. The rich, warm tones of marsala and copper are contrasted by the cool blue creating visual interest and a classic, timeless look.

    Navy & Blush

This combination is elegant, fun, and preppy and combines both masculine and feminine colors creating a balance both the bride and groom can accept! The shade of pink creates the mood. Blush works flawlessly for vintage inspired, sophisticated looks and bright pink works well for fun, modern and playful brides. Navy is used as the neutral and the backbone to this color scheme.

    Navy & Gold

For those who love gold and metallics, pair them with navy! Whereas black and gold can look gaudy and heavy, this combination is chic and modern. Focus on a deep, matte navy and use metallics as accents. Copper would make a gorgeous addition for added richness to this polished look.
