2024 Wedding Trend: Pantone Color of the Year

Introducing Pantone’s 2024 Color of the Year: Peach Fuzz!

Peach Fuzz is a gorgeous, soft pink-orange hue that can be combined with a variety of color palettes to produce a stunning wedding. When paired with fresh colors such as brighter pinks, greens, and blues, the resulting look is vibrant and cheery. When paired with deeper jewel tones such as plum, maroon, and mustard, it produces a harmonious contrast. Peach Fuzz and its soft, subtle hue make an undeniable impact wherever it is incorporated, from florals to paper, candles, and bridesmaid dresses. Peach Fuzz is a uniquely versatile shade that can be added nearly anywhere, whether as the focal color of your event or as an accent pop of color.

We guarantee that Peach Fuzz’s refreshing, gorgeous hue will beautifully enhance your wedding day decor!

Holiday Wedding Decor

Let’s face it, although winters can be hard they are beautiful and they set the stage for magical weddings. However, often when you hear of a wedding around the holidays, images of evergreen, wreaths, and literal holiday elements flood your thoughts. Just because a wedding is over the holidays doesn’t mean it should look like a holiday party! In fact, we go so far as to say it should not look like a holiday party. You can use acorns and bows, but class it up with gorgeous, rich linens and florals mixed in. We are here to challenge the narrative and inspire you in a different direction if you are considering a winter wedding.

We suggest three winter decor directions: Elegant Jewel Tones, Frosty Winter Wonderland and Cozy Cabin. All are without the kitch of the holidays, taking your decor from Happy Holidays to elevated winter wedding. The chilly weather outside sets the stage as your guests enter your stunning reception, filled with subtle nods to the season.

Check out what winter wedding decor inspires us!

TREND ALERT - Bring on the Black!

The hottest trend in weddings is BLACK! No longer simply relegated to tuxes, invitation print, and gold/black color palettes, black is now the primary color with other tones playing supporting roles in the background. Bold and dramatic, and sometimes moody, black accents add depth and certainly make a statement. Some think that weddings should be bright, airy, and neutral to stand the test of time. At Style-Architects Weddings, we do NOT think that is the case. We believe that, although light, bright, and neutral are beautiful, when black takes center stage, magic happens!

We have created some beautiful weddings with black as the primary focus. Check out how we added black to the forefront of some of our couples’ wedding designs.

Want your wedding to stand out from others? BRING ON THE BLACK!

2020 Wedding Trends: Fashion

Cheers to the New Year! There are so many new wedding trends on the horizon for 2020, so for the month of January we are going to share the top wedding trends in a variety of different categories. Today is all about wedding fashion - from frills to full coverage to minimalistic styles, there is something unique for everyone!

FROTH + FRILLS

Your wedding is the ultimate day to showcase your romantic side by incorporating texture and dimension into your dress. 2020 is all about “froth” - weightless, dreamy and full of movement. We think it’s the perfect way to add a bit of volume to your look that looks both whimsical and feminine.

Ruffle01.jpg
Ruffle02.jpg

WATERCOLOR + PRINTS

While wearing a colored dress isn’t exactly a new trend, watercolor is more about a softer take on all things colorful - be it gowns in shades of blue, green, blush, etc. We especially enjoy seeing floral and watercolor prints and details on wedding dresses. So romantic and bohemian!

UNIQUE NECKLINES

We all know that plunging necklines are all the rage, but 2020 is introducing some more unique looks to consider! The scalloped neckline offers an updated take on the sweetheart neckline which is fresh yet still feminine. For something a bit more fashion forward, we have also seen a lot of high necklines that are regal, modest and cutting edge.

Scallop Neck01.jpg

SEXY DETAILS

Sexy never looked so chic! Sheer gowns are making the nearly-naked look feel sophisticated by offering a sexy silhouette but still leaves the bride fully covered. Want something a little more regal? We love the corset bodice with exposed boning paired with sheer tulle and lots of lacey layers.

Bridesmaid Dresses They'll Actually Want to Wear Again

Brides have spent decades trying to figure out the solution for choosing a dress that bridesmaids will actually want to wear again. After all, these dresses are a pricey investment for your bridesmaids, so finding one they love is a thoughtful gesture. Today’s trends make it easier than ever to choose a versatile look for your girls to wear. Who says it needs to be a dress purchased through the traditional bridal salon? Pantsuits are becoming more popular and with online shopping you can select from nearly any shop, vastly expanding your options. If you prefer the traditional shop, selecting a limited number of colors and styles (or one with a versatile neckline) within a brand for bridesmaids to select from ensures they will select something they likely will wear again. If that isn’t your style and you prefer a more uniform look, keep the design simple {yet unique!} to ensure happy bridesmaids. Check out some of our favorite options below.

Unique Cake Shapes

When it comes to creativity, not even the wedding cake is off-the table. Say “goodbye” to the traditional tiered cake and “hello” to the 2019 trend of more unique shaped cakes to show off on your wedding day. In today’s age, bakers are incredibly skilled in their cake-constructing skills, so why not be artistic and dramatic when choosing a cake? There are a ton of ways to incorporate your unique sense of style into your wedding cake. Playing with varying shapes, tier heights or tier alignment can create added drama and interest to the cake. Or, deconstruct the cake and break out the layers. For example, rather than a five-tier cake, display a three-tier, two-tier and small cutting cake. In fact, who says a wedding cake needs to be tiered? A simple one-tier cutting cake can be stunning! Check out some of our favorite examples below and play around with your cake!

Wedding Dress Silhouettes

Now that the ring is on your finger, it’s common that you’ll quickly start day dreaming about your wedding gown. But, it’s tough to know where to start, and that’s why we’re here to help! We covered the basics between ivory and white in a previous blog, and now it’s time to dig into the silhouettes! It’s best to prepare yourself with the lingo so you can consider all your options and clearly communicate during your bridal appointments. We hope you will try out all the looks, consider what looks best for your shape, and select whatever makes you cry tears of happiness for your wedding day!

Ball Gown

A Ball Gown is the perfect gown for a bride who is striving to achieve a princess look on her special day. This silhouette accentuates your waist and is romantic and dramatic due to it’s full skirt. It’s a gorgeous option for fairy-tale styled weddings and for brides who want to make a statement.

A-Line

A -Line gowns cinch at the waist and flare from the hips to resemble an A shape. This silhouette shows a full skirt and is a timeless choice. Who can forget Princess Kate’s gorgeous A-Line gown?

Modified A-Line

Also known as a Fit and Flare, this silhouette is tight through the bodice onto the hip and then flares out into an A-shaped skirt.

Empire Waist

The Empire Waist silhouette is ethereal and features a fitted bodice that ends just below the bust. The gown makes any bride look taller and leaner due to the tight, flattering bodice and lengthening skirt.

Trumpet

A Trumpet silhouette is very similar to the Mermaid silhouette. However, the Trumpet sits tightly on your body until mid-thigh before flaring out. Though it accentuates your stomach and hip areas, it gives you gorgeous curves.

Mermaid

Similar to the Trumpet, the Mermaid hugs your curves and then flares out at the knee. This gown creates a perfect hourglass shape by defining your waist and hips.

Column

Also known as the Sheath, the Column is defined by a narrow shape that flows straight down from the neckline to the hem. Simple and flowy, the Sheath is the perfect shape to achieve an effortless elegance on your wedding day.

Tea Length

The hem of these gowns fall between your ankle and knee. Tea-Length dresses are a flirty, yet sophisticated way to go short for your big day.

Autumn Inspiration

It’s here! Today is officially the first day of fall. Perhaps it’s the crisp, cool weather that gets you excited to bring out all of your favorite sweaters, or Sunday afternoons filled with football games and mingling, or cozying up to a warm fire that gets you all giddy and excited for autumn, but for us it’s all the bright and glowing colors. These vibrant fall colors bring so much inspiration {especially for weddings}. Of course the dark, moody fall tones are beautiful, but we can’t get enough of the oranges, yellows, pinks and blues! If you don’t want these lively hues to take over your design, mix in some muted and neutral tones to balance the look. Take a peek at the images below and let the colors speak for themselves.

Ivory vs White

This blog discusses the differences between ivory and white wedding dresses. It also gives wedding dress inspiration for brides located in Minneapolis.

The debate is on! You’ve probably heard it all, “that wedding dress is white, ivory, cream, egg-shell, etc. They all look just about the same, it doesn’t matter…” WRONG! If we’re being honest, the shade absolutely matters! Though the difference isn’t extremely noticeable, your dress plays a major part in the vibe and style of your wedding.

So what is the difference between ivory and white? Ivory dresses have a slight tint of yellow or cream, and white dresses are bright and colorless. If you’re going for a crisp, clean, modern look, you should be keeping an eye out for a white wedding dress. If you’re leaning toward a soft, romantic vibe, go searching for an ivory wedding dress. If you just can’t decide, we love ivory dresses with bright white details or vice versa, a white dress with delicate ivory details!

Of course, all that aside, you have to go with what looks best against your skin and frankly stark white dresses are hard for some women to pull off. You would think that white works well with warmer skin tones, but it can actually make the skin look ashy. White generally looks better on women with cooler or rosy skin tones.

Be sure to not only fall in love with the style of your gown, but make sure the color fits your vibe and plays nicely with your skin tone!

Abstract Hanging Installations

Hanging installations are the perfect focal point of any wedding. While most couples chose to laden their with greenery and florals, we’ve compiled an abundance of inspiration for using unique alternatives such as wheels, lights, tassels, acrylics, geodes and more.

No wedding design is complete without a focal point, and our favorite focal points are hanging installations because they easily capture everyone's eye and bring the ceiling down.  While we must admit that many hanging installations that are laden with florals and greenery are beyond breathtaking, we have also been thinking it's about time for some fresh installation inspiration {plus, florals and greenery can be pretty expensive}.  There are so many fabrics, textures, mediums and shapes that are eye-catching, so get creative and hang them where everyone can see!   Be sure that the scale fits the space and that the looks speaks to you as a couple.  Below you'll see that we've found a variety of objects to suspend from the ceiling, including wheels, lights, tassels, acrylics and even geodes!  Hang these gorgeous items above your head table, your cocktail and lounge space, or have them frame your ceremony {then repurpose as a sweetheart table backdrop.}  For more inspiration check out our {h a n g i n g i n s t a l l a t i o n} Pinterest Board!

State Fair Themed Late Night Snacks

There's a reason why The Great Minnesota Get-Together is one of the biggest and best fairs.  Of course there's the people watching, carnival rides, and ice cold beer, but we all know it's the food that brings everything and everyone together.  You can find anything from bacon-wrapped olives stuffed with cream cheese to pizza on a stick and, quite honestly, we think it's the perfect place to find inspiration for late night wedding snacks.  State Fair themed snacks are truly the best way into your guests hearts after they've been dancing the night away.  Some treats that we think are perfect for any celebration are mini donuts, cotton candy, corn dogs, s'mores and popcorn.  In addition to these fan favorites, don't be afraid to be a little adventurous and serve a few unexpected options liked fried pickles, poutine, or anything on-a-stick!  Caterers are generally very flexible and willing to get creative.  Or, hire an outside late night snack provider if allowed.  Create some cute signage and your State Fair themed late night snack table will become the perfect way to wrap up your special day.

Eco-Friendly Weddings

Here at Style-Architects Weddings we are all about "going green" when it comes to weddings {in more ways than one}.  Of course if you are an avid environmentalist, your ideas will go well beyond what we've listed here.  But for the bride not necessarily looking to make a statement but rather to incorporate some simple tips, this blog is for you!  Planning an eco-friendly{er} wedding can be a lot easier than you may think.  From simple things like reusing your decor materials to cutting back on paper products, here are a few eco-friendly ideas to incorporate into your big day!

Middle image courtesy of Tim Davis at Consolidated Photo

1. Don't let all of your beautiful blooms go to waste once your wedding is over!  Your flowers can be reused in many ways.  Have your guests take them home, donate them to a nursing home for others to enjoy, or even use them for an upcoming event you may have like a birthday party or a baby shower!  Use florals sparingly for a minimalistic look or use house plants such as cacti, fiddle leaf figs, or even a few potted flowers {such as orchids - our fav!} as decor.

2. Your grand ceremony exit is another easy part of your special day where you can utilize eco-friendly alternatives.  Instead of purchasing items that will later be thrown away {such as ribbon wands}, have your guests toss biodegradable alternatives like flower petals, dainty leaves, fresh lavender or birdseed!

3. Wedding favors are another fun way to get creative with going green.  Gift your wedding guests with something a little more lively {and long-lasting} than other gifts such as a plant or a succulent.  For a totally different option, in lieu of wedding favors inform your guests that you plan to donate money to an environmentally focused charity {or any charitable organization for that matter!} on their behalf.

4. Cutting down on paper is probably one of the easiest ways to "go green" {and cut down on cost} on your wedding day.  Send out e-vites for your save the dates instead of paper.  Get creative with your menus and escort cards as well!  Channel your inner Mother Nature and use leaves, rocks, or geodes as place cards.  As for dinner and drink menus, have one large menu rather than a menu for each guest.  The more creative the better!

5. Finally, create a fun drink station for your guests with cute dispensers rather than having bottled water.  Take it one step further and label your guests' drink glasses so they can reuse them throughout the night!  If you know there will be a lot of empty glass beer bottles or cans by the end of the night, set up a recycling bin to help cut down on waste.

Vendor Feature Q&A: Rosann Konieczny

Rosann Konieczny is a majorly talented artist {and a dear friend!} based in the Minneapolis area that has a knack for creating the most gorgeous work with her calligraphy script skills.  We recently caught up with Rosann and were lucky enough to conduct a Q&A sesh to hear more about her journey as a calligraphy artist.

Images courtesy of Kevalla Wedding Photography.

How did you get into the Calligraphy business?

"I have been doing calligraphy for as long as I can remember - ever since junior high.  However, in a professional sense, I started out in the business as a graphic designer doing calligraphy work for local Minneapolis graphic design shops.  I even moved to California, where I really got into typography and calligraphy.  Calligraphy was just something that I took to immediately.  Although, I never expected to be in the wedding industry, it was just sort of serendipitous.  The wedding industry itself wasn't even really a thing at first - until all of a sudden it was.  I had wedding planners, stationary designers and other people in the wedding business reach out to me for my work - and it just kept happening.  Now the majority of my work is for weddings, and I have met and created so many great relationships through it!"

Images courtesy of Cadence & Eli Photography.

What are some of the most creative surfaces for your calligraphy that you have worked with?

"I definitely create a lot of paper work like invitations, place cards, menus, etc.  However, I have also worked on some cool projects and have done lettering on pieces of wood, mirrors, seaglass, rocks, and even cakes and balloons.  If I am able to find the right tools - you name it and I am more than willing to try it!  Every year I await the unique ideas and projects people have for me to tackle."

Images courtesy of Melissa Oholendt Photography.

Do you typically create your own fonts?

"I have created some of my own fonts, yes.  Often times I am asked if I can recreate a particular font for a client - or come up with my own rendition of it.  The first time I truly created my own font was when I was working as a hostess at a restaurant.  My managers would occasionally have me write the seasonal wine lists or menus, etc.  I really love to play around with different fonts and have fun with it!  I really enjoy the fact that I am able to convey a certain emotion or feeling through the look of the letters."

Images courtesy of Melissa Oholendt Photography.

What is your favorite piece of work that you have done?

"Oh gosh, it's hard to pick just one!  I really do love it all, and I feel so fortunate to work in a such a fun industry where everyone is so happy and one that is all about love.  Although, I suppose I do have a few favorites.  I had a couple come to me with love letters that they had written to each other, and I wrote them out to create a piece of art for them for their anniversary.  I also had the sweetest man present me with an entire journal that he wrote for his bride to be, and he had me write a book of all of the love letters that he had written to her over the years.  One final thing that I am also very proud of is creating logo lettering for some fellow wedding industry professionals, such as Flutter Bridal Boutique, Laura Ivanova, and of course, Style-Architects Weddings & Events!  It's  the moments and people like these that make me feel so privileged to be a part of their stories!"

Images {left to right} courtesy of Melissa Oholendt Photography & Cadence & Eli Photography.

How far out do you book?

"I like to say as soon as you choose a vendor for your invites or other time consuming projects, think about what calligrapher you'd like to work with.  My schedule tends to fill up rather quickly at the beginning of the year, so i would book me as soon as you can!  Of course I am also happy to take on some last minute projects as well, so long as I have enough time!"
