turning concept into reality
The Concept
Andrea and John were married two years prior in their kitchen, but decided that they wanted to celebrate with friends and family with a blow-out event. Known for their lavish and eccentric dinner parties, they wanted to take their guests on a ride by increasing the color, energy and excitement throughout the course of their wedding.
Our Vision
The Reality
The Beach Club, with its dramatic staircase and tall ceilings, provided the perfect backdrop for Andrea and John’s celebration. We proposed using the Boulevard room for the cocktail hour and vow renewal, and later on for the after-party. The after-party was no after-thought and was just as important in the planning to the couple as the rest of the event. For this, they wanted over-the-top sexy, Babylon vibes.
We started the design process with the after-party, and envisioned the room washed in red with imagery projected all over the walls to invoke this full-throttle party atmosphere. Because we didn’t want to have to swap out the florals, we kept them light and airy for the cocktail/ceremony hour, so that when bathed in red, they would assume the hue and be transformed completely. Colorful, fuschia, purple and gold linens mixed with purple sequin linens provided a festive vibe. A Miami DJ accompanied by live instrumentation provided high-energy dance music and a sexy, mirror ball dancer provided unbelievable entertainment.
The cocktail/ceremony room was soft and romantic. The florals were a gorgeous mix of soft yellow, lavender and peach. Fluffy linens adorned the tables and cocktail lounge groupings were brought in and placed in the center of the room to give a cocktail lounge vibe. A pianist and lounge singer provided the musical entertainment.
The staircase was used to elevate the couple during their 5-minute renewal ceremony. To direct guests to their proper table, a custom seating display was created with a large engagement photo of the couple covered with the escort cards. As cards were peeled off, the large photo was slowly revealed.
As guests moved into dinner, the hues of the event deepened as well. Lavender, the bride’s favorite color, was the constant throughout the event. A large, lavender cake was placed on the small stage and the entire backdrop was bathed in oversized, moving floral imagery to provide a nod to what was to come later. A five-course dinner with wine pairings was totally in line with this foodie couple’s style of entertainment. Even the two flavors of cake were paired with a digestif! And, when the last sip was done, a sax and trumpet player from the after-party entered the dining space to lead guests to the after-party.
This over-the-top event was beautiful, sexy, and totally unexpected - exactly what Andrea and John wanted!
